One out of Four Pennsylvanians Under 65 Uninsured in Last Two Years
A new report by Families USA shows that 27.3% of Pennsylvanians under the age of 65 went without insurance for all or part of the last two years. The overwhelming majority were from working families.
“The huge number of people without health coverage in Pennsylvania ... is worse than an epidemic,” said Ron Pollack, the executive director of Families USA, in a conference call with reporters. “These startling numbers demonstrate the seriousness of the problem and demonstrate what happens when a problem is ignored for too long.”
The report also shows that the likelihood of a person to be uninsured increases considerably the further down on the economic ladder they are, or if they are a person of color. 46.5% of Latinos are uninsured as are 37.7% of African-Americans.
