My Brother Billy's Fight for Health Care
I’ve been working in health care for more than 35 years. For most of that time, I worked at St. Francis Medical Center in Pittsburgh. We took care of the working poor everyday, until the rising costs of health care caught up with us and our hospital had to close.
I don’t know when it happened, but our health care system had changed. Suddenly, it wasn’t about giving care to those who needed it. It was about making money.
That change left people like my brother Billy unable to get the care they need. I want to share part of his story with you:
Since Billy lost his insurance, I’ve been talking to everyone I meet about why we need health care reform and telling them Billy’s story. So many of the people I’ve talked to have their own story about how our health care system has failed them.
Will you share your story so we can send them to our legislators?
They need to hear from people like us so they understand that every day they delay fixing health care, more people are getting sick. Some are dying.
Please take a few minutes to tell your story. Congress needs to hear from us.

Bill's Story
I am also Bill's sister (Ann) and I do not know what suddenly happened in this country. Whatever happened to an oath taken by medical professionals to try and save lives rather than place their stock portfolios first? This country is so rich in medical technology, specialist care, and medications but they won't save your life if you are the working poor and can't get health insurance. This country's health insurance industry has gotten so greedy that they close their eyes to the have-nots who die every day for lack of medical care. I had always been proud of this country but since my brother's death found myself being embarassed of what this country now stands for -- GREED & SELFISHNESS. I also had an interview done by the Pittsburgh Post Gazette and today it ran. It was so slanted I did not even recognize it. It made the hospitals/healthsystems look like the victims and the patients look like the villians. I called & complained but found that they too have been bought. The system failed my brother but now our local newspaper failed him and us also.
